DUCHESNE, UTAH – November 15, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – A Union High School senior who died in a head-on collision with an oil tanker Friday night has been identified.
According to Utah Highway Patrol, the accident happened just before midnight when Ashley Hansen, 18, of Roosevelt was traveling eastbound on SR-40 and drifted into the westbound lanes, colliding with a double tanker truck hauling crude oil.
The tanker caught fire but the driver was able to exit safely. Hansen suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead on scene.
Deputies believe fatigue may have been a factor leading up to the accident.
