MURRAY, Utah, March 10, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — A suspect being sought by several agencies for multiple vehicle burglaries was taken into custody by Unified Police early Friday morning.

UPD Lt. Paul Barker told Gephardt Daily that a detective sent Unified Police an email showing a photo of a Ford truck that was stolen out of Salt Lake City. The email indicated that the truck was being driven by Nicholas Ververs, 23, who is suspected of committing several vehicle burglaries in the area.

Cottonwood Heights Police had also posted a description of the suspect and a photo of the truck on Facebook.

At 1:30 a.m. Friday, an officer in Millcreek spotted the truck in the Smith’s parking lot at 845 East and 4500 South. The driver of the truck was asleep in the cab.

Barker said police put spikes around the truck and then ordered the suspect to come out. Instead of complying, the suspect put the truck in reverse and backed into a police car before taking off with police in pursuit.

The pursuit ended at 200 East and 4800 South in Murray, when the truck spun out, Barker said. The suspect ran on foot, and police set up a containment area and brought in a K-9 unit.

Ververs was found hiding in a vehicle, and was taken into custody.

Barker said a warrant will be obtained to search the truck for any stolen items or weapons.

The police car and the Ford truck were damaged, but Barker said no one was injured in this incident.

Ververs is currently in the Salt Lake County Jail with charges related to the pursuit, including aggravated assault on a Police Officer, according to a statement released by UPD spokesman Lt. Brian Lohrke.

In Salt Lake County, Ververs has been charged with assault against a police officer, failure to stop or respond at the command of a police officer, failure to stop at the command of a law enforcement officer, reckless driving, receiving or transfer of a stolen vehicle, and driving on a denied license.

Ververs will also be facing numerous theft charges from various jurisdictions.
