SALT LAKE COUNTY, Utah, July 1, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — An 80-year-old hiker was found deceased Monday in the Big Cottonwood Canyon area after being reported overdue Sunday night.
The man was an experienced hiker, Salt Lake County Sheriff spokesman Chris Bronson told Gephardt Daily. He was reported missing to Unified Police at about 10 p.m. Sunday.
His body was found Monday in the Sundial area, north of Lake Blanche, by a helicopter from the Utah Department of Public Safety.
Officials believe the man fell a significant distance, estimated at 200 feet, resulting in his death.
His name has not yet been released.
