OGDEN, Utah, Aug. 18, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — Investigators are seeking five individuals as persons of interest in the Taylor Canyon fire, Weber Fire Marshal Brandon Thueson stated in a news release Thursday afternoon.

They are described as five males, in their early 20s or late teens. Two are white and three are Pacific Islanders. Some or all of them were wearing camo clothing, the release states. Their vehicle is reported to be a dark-colored, older SUV, such as a Ford Explorer.

Anyone who has any information relating to the fire or these individuals is asked to call Weber Dispatch at 801-395-8221.

The large grass fire started at about 5:07 p.m. Wednesday above the Mount Ogden Golf Course between the 29th Street trailhead and Waterfall Canyon, the release states.

Crews were quickly dispatched to the fire and evacuated hikers from the area.

As of 8 p.m. Wednesday, the fire was estimated at five acres, and a forest service helicopter planned to continue water drops on the blaze until dark. An hour later, the fire had grown to eight acres and was 20 percent contained.

Multiple agencies responded to the scene and by late Thursday afternoon the fire was close to containment and no longer spreading. Fifty firefighters stayed in the area Thursday to extinguish remaining hot spots.

Officials asked that people avoid the area of the 29th Street trailhead, because of fire units working in that area.

No homes were threatened.
