WASHINGTON COUNTY, Utah, Feb. 27, 2021 (Gephardt Daily) — A Hildale City councilman was booked into the Washington County jail Wednesday on suspicion of domestic violence and stalking.
Jared Don Nicol, 46, was booked on suspicion of:
- Four counts of stalking, a class A misdemeanor
- Four counts of domestic violence in the presence of a child, a class B misdemeanor
A probable cause statement filed in Nicol’s case says that he went to the residence of his ex-wife to drop someone off, and was parked across the street.
The ex-wife and other family members and friends were in a car in the driveway, with Nicol allegedly blocked from leaving. Nicol’s ex-wife reported to police that he also “lurched forward” in his vehicle in what his former wife perceived as an attempt to strike her vehicle.
“She pulled hard right and was able to avoid a collision,” the probable cause statement says.
The woman said Jared Nicol followed her for a distance, then turned away. Soon after, she passed him again, as he was pulled over at the side of the road. He then pulled out behind her, the probable cause statement says.
The woman said she was fearful for herself and others in her car.
The woman’s father, who was in the family vehicle, has a restraining order out against Nicol, the affidavit says. That man said “Jared’s following him caused him to be fearful for his safety and the safety of his family,” the statement says.
“Jared committed multiple counts of stalking domestic violence and violating a protective order,” it says. “Jared also committed four counts of domestic violence in the presence of minors.”
According to the statement, Nicol has a criminal history that includes domestic violence “and in the last year has had multiple involvements with the Marshal’s Office involving domestic violence and protective order violations.”
Nicol has a bail hearing set for Wednesday.
