SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Dec. 28, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) — Salt Lake City is offering residents two options to recycle their holiday trees.

The city said in a press release that beginning Monday, residents are encouraged to recycle their trees, free of lights and decorations, by placing them in their brown curbside compost can.

Beginning Monday, Jan. 11 and running through Friday, Jan. 22, 2016, Salt Lake City will also collect holiday trees that are placed at the curb. Trees must be placed at the curb before Jan. 11 to guarantee pickup and composting.

The first option, putting trees in curbside compost cans, would help the city reduce the air quality impact during the winter inversion season by cutting the need for additional vehicles to be used for tree collection.

In the case of dramatic snow fall, adjustments to the curbside holiday tree collection schedule may be required.
