House Fire in Enoch Claims the Lives of Three People

Enoch Fire

ENOCH, UTAH – APRIL 14, 2015 (GEHPARDT DAILY) – A quick spreading fire claimed the lives of three people in Enoch Monday evening.

The three victims, Frances Brewington, 70, Cynthia Shaffer, 46 and Jay Brewington, 32 were found deceased inside the home.

At approximately 10:22 PM last night Enoch City PD received a report of a house on fire at 4568 N Pioneer Dr.

Witnesses reported that people were inside the house, they could see flames in the house and it had spread to vehicles parked in the driveway.

Enoch City Police Officers, Iron County Deputies and Highway Patrol Troopers were the first to arrive on scene. They attempted to enter the home through a window but when they broke it there was such an intense amount of heat and smoke they couldn’t make entry.

“There were a lot of flammable items inside the garage which is where we believe the fire started. They had heat lamps. straw and other materials and a lot of things in the way that made the fire spread very quickly,” said Enoch City Police Chief Jackson Ames.

Once Cedar City Fire Department arrived on scene and fought the fire for several minutes, it was deemed safe for them to enter the home. This is when they discovered the three victims.

A dog and cat were also found dead. A second cat was found alive inside the home and was rescued by firefighters.

The Enoch City Animal Shelter has been in touch with the family and is working with them and rescue groups to find temporary placement of several animals (i.e., horses, geese, dogs, cats, etc.) on the property until a permanent solution can be found.

The investigation is still ongoing at this time to determine the exact cause of the fire.
