ST. GEORGE, Utah, May 21, 2021 (Gephardt Daily) — Multiple homes have been destroyed in a fire in St. George Friday afternoon.
The fire in the area of 300 W. Diagonal St. broke out just before 3 p.m., Tiffany Mitchell, public information officer for the St. George Police Department, told Gephardt Daily.
“We have multiple homes destroyed and we do not have it under control,” Mitchell told us at 4 p.m.
Mitchell said the fire started in either a home or a shed and moved quickly because of high winds. Five homes and a field are on fire.
No one has been injured at this stage, Mitchell said; residents are still being evacuated.
St. George Fire Department, St. George Police Department and Gold Cross Ambulance are all at the scene.
There is an evacuation center being set up near the incident site.
Mitchell said multiple streets have been blocked off and residents are being asked to stay away from the scene. Multiple power outages have also been reported.
An evacuation center is being set up at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints location at 500 N. Bluff St.
Gephardt Daily has a crew at the location and will have more on this developing story as information is made available.
