OREM, Utah, Nov. 27, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A two-alarm fire at a residence in Orem Sunday morning caused $600,000 in damages.

Crews were called out to the blaze at 1269 S. 1100 East at approximately 8 a.m., said Orem Fire Department Battalion Chief Ryan Peterson.

The fire began in a common area near a fireplace, then spread to the attic, he said.

Peterson added an alarm system helped to alert the occupants of the home to the fire, and a man and two children were able to evacuate. None of the three were injured.

Peterson said a second alarm was called because of the large size of the home and the design of the roof, which meant there were some access issues to the blaze that hampered fire-fighting efforts.

Crews from Provo and Pleasant Grove Fire Departments joined Orem Fire. It took 30 firefighters an hour to contain the blaze.

The occupants of the home are being assisted by family members, Peterson said, as the home is uninhabitable.

The cause of the fire has been ruled accidental.
