PARK CITY, Utah, Jan. 29 (UPI)– Hugh Jackman has responded to comments Ryan Reynolds made about their 2009 film, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, by saying Wolverine could take down Deadpool “one hundred percent.”
Reynolds, while promoting his upcoming comic book comedy Deadpool, slammed the previous film while he starred as the character in true Deadpool fashion.
“You gave us Wolverine and for that I can’t forgive you,” the actor said in full Deadpool attire while celebrating Australia day in a promotional video.
“I’ve got no problems with Hugh. I mean, he’s a delightful guy. A true legend. But that movie, that was a career-low for me.”
Yahoo then caught up with Jackman while promoting his latest project, Eddie the Eagle, at the Sundance film festival in which he applauded Reynolds for the diss.
“Love it. It’s just brilliant. I mean, I love Ryan, he’s a good mate of mine. He’s so fantastic,” Jackman said. When asked if Wolverine could take down Deadpool, he candidly responded, “100 percent.”
The two Marvel mutants previously faced-off on the silver-screen in X-Men Origins: Wolverine with Reynolds’ non-traditional Deadpool falling to Jackman’s Wolverine. While he wouldn’t commit to appearing in a potential Deadpool sequel, Jackman is rumored to appear in this summer’s X-Men: Apocalypse and then wrap up his career as the hero in a third standalone film.
“I don’t really count the numbers but I certainly am amazed at 17 years of playing this character, which I love, obviously,” Jackman said of appearing as Wolverine in nine different films.
“And it’s been the backbone of my career, and I am ridiculously grateful to the fans and I am really taking this last one so seriously. I’ve never worked as hard on one as this, and I really leave it on a high. Not just for me, but for all the fans. It’s kind of amazing, no one really saw all this coming.”
