JUAB COUNTY, Utah, Aug. 2, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A fiery crash closed I-15 in Juab County early Thursday morning.

The accident happened near mile marker 202 about 2:50 a.m. when a semi truck collided with another vehicle in the northbound lanes 14 miles north of Scipio.

UHP troopers reported both vehicles were on fire as they arrived and one victim suffered burns on her legs.

A box truck semi hauling consumables and mail packages was traveling northbound on I-15 at mile marker 202, according to a news release Thursday from UHP. For an unknown reason, the truck rear-ended a flatbed semi hauling bags of powdered gypsum.

“The box truck semi caught fire and burned leaving only the frame,” the news release said. “The front truck was able to disconnect from it’s flatbed trailer and pull away. The flatbed trailer also burned.”

A female occupant of the box truck semi was in the sleeper berth. She was trapped for a short time and received burns over a large portion of her legs. The driver received non-life threatening injuries. Both were transported to Central Valley Hospital by ground ambulance.

The driver of the flatbed truck was not injured.

Northbound I-15 was closed from the time of the crash until 4:35 a.m., and traffic was diverted off the 202 Yuba off-ramp and then back onto northbound I-15. Two heavy wrecker companies were required on scene.

Gephardt Daily will update the story as more information becomes available.
