Update: I-70 reopens in area of Cove Creek Fire

SEVIER COUNTY, Utah, July 28, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Interstate 70 in the area of the Cove Creek Fire in Sevier County has reopened, officials said.

Utah Fire Info said in its daily update on Facebook the fire, which is burning seven miles east of the I-70/I-15 interchange, near Shingle Creek, is now 15 percent contained.

There are now 53 personnel assigned to the 1,138 acre fire, which includes eight air resources, 12 engines and six crews. The fire, which began on July 17, was started by lighting, officials said.

The daily update said: “The Cove Creek Fire is being managed under a full suppression strategy utilizing a series of tactics including indirect fire line with firing operations to secure that line. Today, crews will be continuing fire operations to hold and secure the line to protect valuable infrastructures. Smoke will be visible from the surrounding areas.”

On Friday, the fire was 975 acres and five percent contained.
