MOUNTAIN GREEN, Utah, Jan. 3, 2025 (Gephardt Daily) — A crowded dawn crash scene left three humans and four horses needing extrication in Weber Canyon Thursday.

“A four-vehicle chain-reaction crash closed I-84 eastbound just past the Mountain Green exit at about 6:10 a.m. this morning and caused four additional crashes in the backup,” the Mountain Green Fire Protection District said in an online statement. Eventually the whole freeway was blocked, officials said.

One pickup rolled after striking other stopped vehicles, and at least three persons were initially trapped in their vehicles, along with four horses in a trailer.

In addition to Mountain Green units, the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office and Morgan County Fire & EMS responded to the scene, according to the district.

“Amazingly, no injuries, no one hospitalized, this despite the several people pinned in vehicles.”

Firefighters cut the door on the horse trailer to free the trapped horses, which were then loaded into another trailer. The freeway was reopened after about 50 minutes.
