WEST JORDAN, Utah, Jan. 11, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — An impaired driver who crashed into a power box then into the side of a home leaving nearly 3,000 people without power early Sunday morning has been identified as Alex Cushing.

According to West Jordan Police officer Nelson Vargas, officers were called out at 2:15 a.m. to a report of a single-vehicle accident at a home located on the corner of 4800 West and Banquet Ave.

“When our officers arrived they found the driver still sitting in the vehicle,” Vargas said. “The driver had lost control of his car, hit the power box on the corner then drove into the side of the home, hitting the gas meter.”

Cushing, 27, was thought to be under the influence and was taken to the West Jordan Police station where a sobriety test was administered. Vargas said it was determined Cushing was impaired by alcohol and he was arrested for DUI.

Police said Cushing is facing multiple charges, including driving under the influence.

No one was injured in the incident but Vargas said there was extensive damage to the home.
