Inmate dies at Utah State Prison in possible homicide

DRAPER, Utah, Sept. 22, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — The death of an inmate at Utah State Prison this weekend is being investigated as a possible homicide.

“An inmate was found unresponsive in his cell in the Oquirrh Facility at the Utah State Prison late Saturday evening and was later declared deceased,” a statement from the prison says.

“The death is being investigated as a possible homicide.”

The name of the deceased is being withheld.

“Family of the deceased inmate have been notified,” the prison statement says.

“Names will not be released at this time due to the incident being under investigation.”

The Oquirrh facility comprises five buildings on the southernmost end of the Utah State Prison complex. The facility has a capacity for 850 inmates.
