SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, June 16, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — Interstate 80 eastbound in Salt Lake City will be closed this weekend, the Utah Department of Transportation said in a news release.

In addition, UDOT is reminding motorists that State Route 39, the Ogden Canyon Highway, will be closed to all through-traffic on Monday, June 19, while crews perform paving work in the canyon.

Eastbound I-80 will close between 2300 East and Foothill Drive from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday, the news release said.
During this closure, all traffic will be detoured onto the I-215 west belt. Drivers will then need to exit at 3300 South, get onto northbound I-215, and then follow the signs to eastbound I-80. Heavy congestion and delays of 30 minutes are expected along the detour route, so drivers should plan ahead, leave early, and allow plenty of extra time.
Workers will break up the existing concrete and pave over it with new asphalt as part of a major pavement maintenance project. Crews did similar work on westbound I-80 last weekend.
Drivers should keep in mind that I-80 is reduced to one lane in each direction during overnight hours and on weekends, between 1300 East and the I-80/I-215 split, also as part of this project.

Ogden Valley and Ogden area motorists are also reminded that SR-39, the Ogden Canyon Highway, will be closed to all through-traffic on Monday.

Crews will be paving over water line trenches in the canyon that have begun to subside since construction was performed there several years ago, a news release from UDOT said. In order to complete this paving work in one day and keep delay and detouring to a minimum, Ogden Canyon will be closed at Valley Drive on the west end, and at SR-158 over Pine View Dam on the east end, from 5 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday.

During this work, all normal through-traffic to and from the Ogden Valley should consider using I-84 in Weber Canyon and SR-167, the Trappers Loop Highway, between Huntsville and Mountain Green, as an alternate route. Ogden Canyon residents will be allowed in and out of the closed area as needed.

For the latest information on traffic restrictions during construction, visit the UDOT Traffic website or download the UDOT Traffic app for iPhone or Android. Drivers can also follow UDOT on social media including Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.
