ST. GEORGE, Utah, Dec. 29, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — One man is dead and another has been booked into the Purgatory Correctional Facility — being held on suspicion of murder, assault and driving under the influence — after a bar fight early Saturday morning in St. George.

Bronson Joseph Flynn, 26, of Ivins, has been booked into the Purgatory Correctional Facility on suspicion of murder after a shooting in front of One and Only Bar.

St. George police responded to the bar at 1:23 a.m. on reports of a man brandishing a gun, followed by gunfire.

Officers arrived at the scene, 64 N. 800 East, St. George, and detained Flynn.

“First aid was rendered to the victim of the shooting, a 34-year-old male resident of St. George,” a SGPD statement says. “The victim was transported by ambulance to Dixie Regional Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries.”

The victim’s name has not yet been released pending notification of his family.

The shooting was the result of a dispute between bar patrons that started in an area in front of the bar, the statement says.

“The events which transpired between the initial confrontation and the shooting are still under investigation, however, the incident ended when the victim was shot in front of a neighboring business. Additional statements provided evidence Mr. Flynn pointed his firearm toward, at least, two other people during the incident.”

Officers smelled alcohol on Flynn’s breath, “and later found suspected drug paraphernalia in his possession.”

Information from the jail booking page shows that Flynn has been booked on the following preliminary charges:

  • Murder, a first-degree felony
  • Two counts of aggravated assault involving a weapon, a third-degree felony
  • Driving under the influence, a class B misdemeanor
  • Brandishing a firearm during a fight, a class B misdemeanor
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia, a class B misdemeanor
  • Possession of a weapon while under the influence, a class B misdemeanor

“The investigation is ongoing and details of the dispute, and specific events leading up to the shooting, are not being released at this time,” the St. George Police statement says.

“To the family members and witnesses who were patient with investigators and officers, and provided information concerning the incident – Thank you. This is a difficult and emotional time and we hope you find peace in knowing we are working very hard to bring this case to a successful conclusion. We are sorry for your loss.”

Anyone who was at the One and Only Bar last night, who witnessed the dispute leading up to the shooting, or the shooting itself, is asked to contact the St. George Police Department Investigation Unit’s tip line at 435-627-4338 (reference Incident 18P031977).
