WASHINGTON, D.C. Feb. 15, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — U.S. Rep. Jason Chaffetz, chairman of the House Oversight Committee, is calling for a federal investigation into leaks of classified information leading to the ouster of former national security adviser Michael Flynn.

Chaffetz made the request in a joint letter he and fellow Republican Rep. Bob Goodlatte, chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, sent to the U.S. Inspector General’s office Wednesday.

“Over the last several days, there have been a series of news articles recounting potentially classified national security information,” the letter states. “These include reports on communications of or regarding the President’s former National Security Adviser Lieutenant General Michael Flynn ….

“We have serious concerns about the potential inadequate protection of classified information here ….

“In light of this, we request that your office begin an immediate investigation into whether classified information was mishandled.”

Donald Trump himself attacked the leaks in a series of early morning messages posted on Twitter, referring to them as the “real scandal.”

.
Late last week, Chaffetz took aim at Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway after she promoted Ivanka Trump’s clothing line in an interview with Fox TV. The Utah Republican sent a letter to the Office of Government Ethics asking Conway be investigated for the endorsement, a potential violation of federal law.

Tuesday Chaffetz sent a letter to White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus asking about security measures taken in the wake of North Korea’s ballistic missile test, when it appeared documents and information were being reviewed in public while Trump dined with Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe during a gathering at Mar-a-Lago.

Chaffetz has shown considerably less interest in investigating the role the Russian government allegedly played in attempts to influence the 2016 U.S. election.

  1. The republican party has become a bunch of skirt lifting cowards
Before the election the GOP could have told us daily what
    color panties Hillary had on.
An unsecured email server merits hearing after hearing.

Our elected president has an open love affair with Russia and the boys of red don’t have the cojonas to say or do anything…

What a bunch of mealy mouthed weaklings.
No wonder their party was so easily overcome by such a pathetic figure.

  2. Look to yourself, Chaffetz! Members of the intelligence community are permitted to act covertly to influence the outcome of events in favor of national interests. They also take an oath, which in part reads, “I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and DOMESTIC.”
Chaffetz did NOTHING to investigate the Russian issue – an obvious threat to our country. There was no outcry until the intelligence regarding the connection was leaked. This inaction led to someone in our intelligence community taking steps to honor their oath and defend against enemies, both foreign and domestic – to protect our Constitutionally guaranteed form of government. At least they waited until AFTER the election, rather than using the information to influence election results.
After the MILLIONS Chaffetz wasted investigating Benghazi, this is an obviously partisan slap in the face. DO YOUR JOB, CHAFFETZ!!!!

  3. Really? The enabler Whitewash Chaffetz, he would investigate Hillary if her slip was showing.
Now we have possible Republican administration treachery and nothing? Stop with
the false equivalency head fake this isn’t about leaked troop movements, it’s about administration treachery. Example of the leaks or media deflection importance. Emergency Room Doctor; Yes, Mrs. Trump your child was hit by a car and we’ll start treatment as soon as we find out if it was a Chevy or a Ford.
