SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Dec. 3, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — A suspect who reportedly brandished a handgun at a woman as she got out of her car at the Jewish Community Center in Salt Lake City has been taken into custody in Murray, officials said.

Because the JCC is near the University of Utah campus, a text and email alert went out to staff and students just after 12:20 p.m. Sunday that said a man driving a white Mercedes wagon pulled into the parking area and pointed what was believed to be a handgun at the woman.

The Salt Lake City Police Department is investigating the incident and reported that the man was last seen at 3300 South and I-15.

A description of the suspect and the vehicle was circulated and a follow up email and text went out at 3 p.m. to inform students and staff the suspect was taken into custody in Murray. “There is no longer any threat to campus associated with this incident,” the text said.

Gephardt Daily will have more on this developing story as information becomes available.
