SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Feb. 23, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A 15-year-old male is in custody after driving a stolen car in the wrong direction down a downtown Salt Lake City street and colliding with an SUV, police said.

Salt Lake City Police Department said in a news release the teen was driving the wrong direction on one-way 600 South at West Temple at 3:22 a.m. Tuesday.

Police said the teen collided with an SUV legally driving north along West Temple. Both vehicles ended up on the lawn in front of the Double Tree Suites on the northwest corner of the intersection.

The juvenile exited the car and began walking away from the crash. An off-duty SLCPD officer had seen the crash, caught up to the juvenile and held him for arriving officers.

Both drivers were transported to different hospitals with minor injury. The juvenile was then processed for DUI. He was reportedly a runaway and the car he was driving was reported stolen just before the crash.
