VERNAL, Utah, Jan. 24, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A male juvenile has been charged with multiple felonies after a September knife attack on three family members in Vernal.

One victim died of his injuries, and the two others suffered “extensive injuries,” a statement from the Vernal Police Department says.

The suspect — who police have not identified due to his age — was a stranger to the family, police say. The juvenile reportedly forced his way into their residence.

“In September of 2018, the Vernal Police Department responded to a reported stabbing within Vernal City limits,” the police statement says.

“It was determined that a single suspect unknown to the family had forcibly entered the residence and stabbed all three occupants of the residence multiple times.

“Kyle Reynolds and Kathy Reynolds were treated locally for extensive injuries, and Cal Dee Reynolds was transported by air to another facility. Cal Dee Reynolds was flown from our area and later succumbed to his injuries.”

Cal Dee Reynolds, 84, was a former Vernal City Council member.

The investigation led police to a male juvenile who had been incarcerated on unrelated charges shortly after the incident.

“Law Enforcement has been certain that our community has been safe, and has remained quiet until formal charges were filed to maintain the integrity of the criminal case,” the Vernal Police statement says.

“Law Enforcement will have no further comment on this case until the time is appropriate.”
