SANDY, Utah, May 14, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — When a man allegedly fled on foot from the scene of a Sandy vehicle collision, a K-9 called CA$H had what it took to find him.
The incident was reported at about 1:50 a.m. Friday. The bloodhound was brought to the scene, in the area of 8600 S. Monroe St., and followed its nose to the area of 260 E. Cottage “where he attempted to elude officers again by jumping into a fenced area before being contacted and arrested,” a Sandy City Police statement says.
“The suspect was charged with DUI, Hit & Run, Failure to Stop at the Command of an Officer, and Refusal to Provide ID.”
According to the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, the average dog’s sense of smell is about 100 times better than a human’s, and the average bloodhood has a nose about 300 times more effective than a human’s.
