CEDAR CITY, Utah, Jan. 30, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A rookie K-9 “officer” located five pounds of cocaine and one pound of ecstasy during a traffic stop on Interstate 15 in Cedar City Tuesday evening.

Corporal Kirk Lovell and K-9 Max were summoned to assist the Utah Highway Patrol on the traffic stop on I-15, the Cedar City Police Department said in a news release.

“K-9 Max alerted to illegal narcotics in the vehicle and it was discovered that five pounds of cocaine and one pound of powder ecstasy were concealed inside the vehicle,” the news release said.

Max is a 3-year old Belgian Malinois, who completed his training in June of 2018, and immediately began working with Corporal Lovell.

“This is his first large drug find,” the news release said. “The hard work and dedication demonstrated by Corporal Lovell and K-9 Max helped to remove these dangerous drugs from the streets, which have a street value of more than $350,000. Great job.”
