KAMAS, Utah, Dec. 6, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — Kamas City Mayor Lewis Marchant apparently had a heart attack Monday morning while he was driving an empty school bus, which then crashed into a power line pole.

According to Utah Highway Patrol, at about 8 a.m., Marchant was behind the wheel of a South Summit County School District bus heading west on State Route 150 between 100 East and Main Street when the medical problem occurred.

“The bus veered off the road to the right and struck a power line pole. Mayor Marchant was transported to Park City Medical Center by ambulance in critical condition, where he was later transported to (Intermountain Medical Center) by medical helicopter,” the UHP news release states.

There were no passengers on the bus. SR-150 was closed down between Main Street and 100 East while Rocky Mountain Power replaced the power line pole.

No further word on the mayor’s condition was available Monday night.
