Update: Motorcyclist dead after crash near Kanarraville identified

KANARRVILLE, Utah, Sept. 13, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A motorcyclist who died after he hit the median on northbound Interstate 15 Monday afternoon near Kanarraville has been identified.

Barry R. Whitaker, 70, from Montella, Nevada, may have had a medical condition that led to the crash, said Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Todd Royce.

Royce said the man veered from the right lane to the left lane then struck the median in the accident, near milepost 46, which occurred just before 1:30 p.m.

“Within a few seconds of making the lane change the motorcycle started to fishtail and it then went off the roadway into the median,” Royce said. “The motorcycle then flipped and the rider was thrown from the motorcycle. The rider was wearing a helmet, but he sustained fatal injuries. At this time it is not known what caused the motorcycle to leave the roadway.”

Royce said officials are awaiting the results from the medical examiner’s office as to a possible cause, and it is believed a previous medical issue may be a factor.

No other vehicles were involved.

Whitaker was pronounced dead on scene.
