KAYSVILLE, Utah, June 18, 2025 (Gephardt Daily) -- Kaysville firefighters responded to two incidents earlier this week that could have gone fatal, but ended up causing only minor injuries.
"The first occurred on I-15 when a large piece of concrete flew through the windshield of a passing motorist," a Kaysville Fire news release says.
"Utah Highway Patrol determined the cause to be an unsecured load from another vehicle. The concrete struck the driver, but fortunately, the patient’s arms were positioned in a way that blocked it from hitting their face or head—likely preventing serious injury.
"They sustained minor injuries and were released at the scene."
The second incident happened in Kaysville's Barnes Park, about an hour after the first incident, the release says.
"A jack stabilizing a vehicle failed, dropping the car onto an individual working beneath it. Our heavy rescue team and paramedics were joined by an ambulance and a battalion chief from Layton City Fire, as we were already handling two other medical calls in the city at the time.
"Crews arrived to find the patient had been extricated with help from teenagers playing in the park. The teens called 911 and rendered aid until EMS arrived.
"This incident could have ended tragically, but fortunately, the patient sustained non-life-threatening injuries" and was transported to a nearby trauma center.
"We’re grateful for the positive outcomes of these incidents, especially given the potential severity of each," the release says.
"We also extend our thanks to our mutual-aid partners for their ongoing assistance. It has been a busy summer for KFD and other area fire departments, requiring increased use of the mutual-aid system throughout the county."
