KAYSVILLE, Utah, Sept. 17, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A mobile home at the north end of Kaysville was deemed a total loss after the residents’ clothes dryer caught fire Saturday.

Kaysville firefighters responded to the call at about 6:38 p.m. and arrived to find a “room and contents” fire, Acting Battalion Chief Kori Taylor said.

The structure was about 45 years old, Taylor said, and although the fire was out within about five minutes of the fire crew’s arrival, the damage was extensive and the mobile home was a total loss. Taylor said the displaced occupants will be staying with family.

The fire was determined to be accidental and there were no injuries. Taylor said no investigation is planned.

The majority of clothes dryer fires are caused by a buildup of lint in the machine. It is not known if that was the case in this incident, but Taylor said it’s important for people to periodically take the back off the machine and clean around the drum and the dryer vent hose. Cleaning the lint filter that’s accessible from the front of the machine does not remove the lint that collects out of sight inside the dryer.
