WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, Oct. 17, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A Kearns man has been charged with allegedly abducting a woman off the street in 2016, then sexually assaulting her in an abandoned house.

A probable cause statement from the 3rd District Court of Salt Lake County said Edgar Zepeda, 25, is charged with aggravated kidnapping, a first-degree felony; and four counts of aggravated sexual assault, also first-degree felonies.

The statement said that on or around Sept. 17, 2016, in Salt Lake County, the woman was walking down the street when two unknown men got out of their car, grabbed her, covered up her eyes and put her into their vehicle.

“She stated she was taken to an abandoned house where the driver of the vehicle raped her,” the statement said. “She tried to kick the driver and he told her that he and the other unknown male would attack her if she did anything stupid.”

A DNA sample collected from that incident was tested in 2018 and matched in a database with Zepeda, the statement said.

A no-bail arrest warrant was issued for Zepeda on Wednesday.
