KEARNS, Utah, April 12, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — All lanes have reopened after an accident that shut down traffic in Kearns Tuesday morning, according to police.

Unified Police Det. Jared Richardson said the accident occurred at about 8:30 a.m. at 5415 S. 5413 West. A gold Cadillac and a gold Chevrolet collided head-on in the eastbound lanes.

Richardson said it appears the gold Cadillac, traveling westbound, veered to the left and crossed the lanes, striking the gold Chevy head-on.

The Cadillac was driven by a 45-year-old male, who had to be extricated by Unified Fire Authority. He was taken by ground ambulance to a local hospital in serious condition.

Richardson said officials are investigating whether the man went into oncoming traffic due to distraction—possibly a medical condition, drugs or alcohol, fatigue, or a mechanical issue with the vehicle.

The 35-year-old woman driving the Chevy was also transported to a local hospital in serious condition but has since been upgraded to fair.

No arrests were made or citations issued.

Three lanes were closed in the area in both directions, but have now reopened.

Gephardt Daily will have more on this developing story as information becomes available.
