AMERICAN FORK, Utah, Aug. 1, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A 4-year-old girl was flown to a hospital Monday afternoon after her foot was cut off by the blades of a riding lawnmower in American Fork.

Lt. Sam Liddiard with the American Fork Police Department said the girl was sitting with her grandmother on a riding lawnmower at a home near 350 W. 1300 North when she fell off and was caught underneath.

Liddiard said a 911 call came in at approximately 1:10 p.m. that the young girl’s right foot was severed below the knee. He added she also suffered deep lacerations on her right leg from the buttocks down.

Liddiard said the little girl was rushed to American Fork Hospital, then airlifted to Primary Children’s Hospital. Her condition is not known at this time, but her injuries are not said to be life threatening.

Hospital officials said the girl might lose her leg due to the extensive damage.

“But those folks work miracles there,” Liddiard said of the hospital.

He said the incident is being treated as a tragic accident, and no charges are pending.
