LAYTON, Utah, July 12, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — A middle-aged woman is in custody after police say she stole a shiny red sports car from a Layton dealership Wednesday night, then led police on a pursuit before hiding in a Mountain Green home.
The Layton Police Department said in a series of Twitter posts that Kristine Malan, 50, Â took keys to the Chevrolet Camaro from Young Chevrolet after she intimated to employees that she had a gun.
Police were called, but when they located Malan driving the car, she did not stop, and led officers on a pursuit.
Officers ended the chase, but later the vehicle was spotted by the Utah Highway Patrol on Interstate 84 in Weber Canyon. Police chased Malan again, and she drove to a home in Mountain Green and went inside.
After a standoff lasting approximately 80 minutes, Malan was taken into custody peacefully as she was letting a 6-year-old resident leave out the front door.
According to early reports, the home may have belonged to a friend of Malan’s.
Police added there were no injuries during the pursuit, standoff or arrest of Malan.
Gephardt Daily will have more on this developing story as information becomes available.
Mountain Green is about 14 miles northeast of Layton.
There must be more to this story than meets the eye. It’s not common for statements by the police to be so “forgiving” in this kind of situation. Firearm (real or fake), stolen car, high speed pursuit, even a child is involved. Something isn’t right. I’m holding out for more info.
