LAYTON, Utah, Dec. 19, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A Layton man has been booked into jail on suspicion of 16 crimes against six children over more than a decade.
Brett Leonard Orton, who turns 44 on Sunday, was booked into the Davis County Jail on suspicion of:
- Six counts of sodomy on a child, a first-degree felony
- Four counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child, a first-degree felony
- Two counts of rape, a first-degree felony
- Four counts of forcible sodomy on a child, a second-degree felony
All charges are related to events alleged to have happened between 2001 and 2015.
The accusers are:
No. 1 — A 27-year-old man who reported he was abused when he was about 12 in a shed behind a Layton residence.
No. 2 — A 26-year-old woman who says she recalls being abused hundreds of times starting when she was 12, and at age 16 was told the man would hurt her family if she told anyone what was happening.
No. 3 — A woman, 30, who said she was abused over several years at a home in Layton, starting when she was about 13 and lasting until she was an adult. The woman told police she was told her family would be hurt if she told anyone about the abuse. Victim three also said she was given alcohol, and that the abuse by Orton lasted until she was in her 20s.
No. 4 — A female, 24, who said she was abused at about age 15, and was offered $600, which she declined. The suspect had asked again for sexual acts within the past year, the woman said.
The suspect occupied a position of special trust to accusers 1 through 4, according to indictment information filed with the court.
No. 5 — A woman, 19, who said she had been molested while visiting the suspect’s home when she was 15 or 16.
No. 6 — A woman, 26, who says the suspect asked her for a sexual act when she was 14, after he gave victim No. 2 alcohol and it sickened her.
Orton is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail.
