BRIGHAM CITY, Utah, Oct. 7, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A Layton man was in critical condition Friday afternoon after he got caught in a concrete paver while working in an Interstate 15 construction zone.

Emergency crews were called shortly after 2:30 p.m. to an industrial accident on northbound I-15 just south of Exit 362, near Brigham City.

According to a news release from Utah Highway Patrol, the 39-year-old man was under the paver, working on what is called a dowel bar inserter. His job was to make sure the dowel rods are properly inserted into the concrete as it is laid.

“Somehow he got inside and was caught by the device and pinned,” with the device crushing against him, the UHP release states.

He was transported by Life Flight to McKay-Dee Hospital in critical condition.
