PARK CITY, Utah, Jan. 29, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Police arrested a Layton orthopedic surgeon Sunday for allegedly stealing multiple items from a private function at a hotel during the Sundance Film Festival.

A probable cause statement for 64-year-old Kenneth Wesley Jee, filed in Third District Court in Summit County, states that police were called on Saturday to a report of a theft that had occurred on Friday.

According to the probable cause statement, the complainant told police that a man entered a private function room at the hotel and took multiple items totaling more than $900.

On Sunday, the person again called police and said they had detained the theft suspect.

Officer James Rodrigues responded to the scene and went to the security office, where he “observed a tall elderly male of approximately 65 years.”

When Rodrigues asked the man what was going on, “he stated that he had taken some things that did not belong to him.”

According to the probable cause statement, the man claimed that he had no identification on him and proceeded to give Rodrigues a false name and false Social Security number. The Social Security number came back as belonging to a different person.

“When I confronted subject with this information, he admitted that he gave me an incorrect social security number,” Rodrigues said in the statement. “Subject gave me the correct social security number, and I was able to identify him as Kenneth Wesley Jee….”

Jee was taken into custody and charged with:

  • Burglary, for entering the premises without being a guest of
the hotel or having business there, with the intent to commit theft — a third-degree felony
  • Giving false personal information (a false name) to a peace officer — a class C misdemeanor
  • Giving false personal information (the Social Security number of an actual person) to a peace officer — a class A misdemeanor

Jee’s profile on Facebook says he worked for Tanner Clinic.

Tanner Clinic on Facebook shows that Jee was an orthopedic surgeon at the Layton clinic; however, the Tanner Clinic website no longer lists him as one of their providers.
