LAYTON, Utah, Dec. 21, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) — Two men have been arrested after setting fire to a portable computer lab outside Layton Elementary School Monday morning.
According to a press release issued by Layton Police, officers responded Layton Elementary at 369 West Gentile just before 3 a.m. because of multiple motion alarms occurring in a the lab.
“Upon arrival, officers found multiple individuals inside of the portable and setting fire in multiple areas,” said the release.
Officers also noticed several windows had been broken, and tried to get the suspects to exit. In an attempt to escape, one suspect, David Teasley, 18, ran out the door, and a second suspect, Coleman Harris, 19, tried to escape through a broken window.
Both were apprehended by police.
The damages to the portable from the fire were estimated by the Utah State Fire Marshal to be $10,000.
A backpack was found with $6,300 worth of laptops that Coleman said he placed there in an effort to save the property from the fire. Upon seeing police officers, he left the backpack in the portable.
Both have been booked into the Davis County Jail on charges of aggravated arson, criminal mischief, theft, burglary, possession of marijuana and spice and consumption of alcohol by a minor.
