LDS Church: 21-year-old missionary has died in Democratic Republic of the Congo

DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF THE CONGO, Africa, Oct. 22, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced Tuesday morning that a 21-year-old missionary in the Democratic Republic of the Congo has died after a brief illness.

“We are saddened to share news of the passing of a young missionary,” said a news release from the Church. “Elder Hermann Keredjim Mwanken passed away Monday after a brief illness.”

He had been serving in the Democratic Republic of the Congo Mbuji-Mayi Mission since November 2017, the news release said. Mwanken is from Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo.

“We pray that his family and loved ones will feel comforted and supported at this difficult time,” the news release said.

No further details were given of the illness.

The Democratic Republic of the Congo, formerly called Zaire, is located in Central Africa, north of Zambia and west of Tanzania.

  1. Always so saddened to hear the passing of young Elders or any Missionaries . May the family feel of the Love our Father in Heaven with them always.
