SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Jan. 7, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints this week announced the formation of three new missions.
All will be created by the realignment of existing mission boundaries, according to a news release from mormonnewroom.org.
The Democratic Republic of the Congo Mbuji-Mayi Mission will be created from a division of the Democratic Republic of the Congo Kinshasa and Democratic Republic of the Congo Lubumbashi missions.
The Vietnam Hanoi Mission will be created from the Cambodia Phnom Penh Mission, which for several years has included Vietnamese-speaking missionaries who serve in Vietnam.
Often called branch builders in Vietnam, missionaries in the Vietnam Hanoi Mission will continue to serve local members and branches.
Mission president Lewis Hassell, who has been serving in Vietnam as part of the Cambodia Phnom Penh Mission since May 2015, will preside over the new mission. He will be accompanied by his wife, Mary Bliss Hassell.
The Nigeria Owerri Mission will be created from a division of the Nigeria Port Harcourt Mission.
All three missions will be operational by July 1 of this year, according to the LDS Church statement.
