Lehi Teen Dies After Fatal Accident on I-215; Charges Possible

SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH – November 8, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – Police have identified a Lehi teen who died after the car he was riding in hit a pole on I-215 last Sunday.

According to Utah Highway Patrol, just before 11 a.m. on November 1, 2015, April Chavez-Rosas, 20, of West Valley City was driving on I-215 near the Redwood Road exit when she drifted off the north side of the road and onto the dirt shoulder. As Chavez-Rosas attempted to return to the roadway, she struck a support pole on the car’s passenger side.

Chavez-Rosas sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Intermountain Medical Center in stable condition.

Matthew Pruneda, 17, of Lehi, a passenger sitting in the front seat, had to be extricated and was taken to IMC in extremely critical condition. He succumbed to his injuries on November 3.

Drugs and alcohol were found in the vehicle and troopers are investigating impairment as a possible cause of the crash.

Charges are currently be screened through the District Attorney’s office.
