OGDEN, Utah, Aug. 22, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — A family friend charged with aggravated murder in the death of one 2-year-old twin, and sexually abusing both while babysitting, was sentenced to life in prison Thursday without possibility of parole.

Jonathan Allen Dunn, 36, had pleaded guilty a week ago to the aggravated murder charge, which brought the life in prison without parole sentence, while the two sexual abuse charges resulted in two 15-years-to-life terms, according to court records.

Dunn was baby-sitting for a Roy family at the time of offenses on Dec. 21, 2023. Called to the scene in the general area of 4450 South and 1950 West by Dunn reporting a medical emergency that morning, police ended up arresting him on suspicion of murder and multiple abuse charges.

Twin 2-year-olds were immediately sent to a hospital with blunt force trauma injuries, where the male twin died, police said at the time. The toddler’s sister survived.

Dunn was a friend to the victims’ parents who was referred to as an uncle, police said, but was not a relative.

Policed found the male toddler unconscious and not breathing on the front porch of the home, according to Dunn’s probable cause statement. The boy had bruises all over his body and was taken to McKay-Dee Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, the affidavit says.

Police also found the boy’s twin sister sitting on a couch inside the home, “with several visible bruises to her face,” the charging documents say. She was taken to an area hospital to be treated for a brain bleed.

Dunn previously was convicted and sentenced to prison in 2017 for second-degree felony child abuse.
