Spectacular Fire Consumes Old Midvale Middle School
MIDVALE, UTAH – July 25, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) –
A spectacular fire destroyed a large section of the old Midvale Middle School early Saturday night.
Firefighters were first called to the scene around 7 p.m. with reports that construction equipment was on fire. When they arrived the found an entire wing of the school being consumed by flames.
Dozens of firefighters from agencies across the valley responded to the blaze, the smoke from which could be seen for miles.
According to a Unified Fire District spokesman, there are unconfirmed reports that two juveniles were seen on the roof of the structure before the fire broke out. There were also unconfirmed reports that those juveniles may have been inside the building when the fire surged out of control. Firefighters conduct a search of the fire site but found no evidence of the reported juveniles.
The fire appears to have broken out in the vicinity on the school’s gymnasium.
The structure had recently been gutted and was slated for demolition at the end of July to make way for a new middle school later this year.
