LOGAN, Utah, June 14, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — A Logan man convicted of sexually abusing a child was sentenced Tuesday to the Utah State Prison.

Manuel Lynn Johnson, 58, was charged in February with aggravated sexual abuse of a child. Prosecutors said Johnson groomed the child in an effort to gain her trust and make the abuse seem innocent.

Johnson was facing 15 years to life in prison, but in March accepted a plea deal. He pleaded guilty to attempted aggravated sexual abuse of a child, a lesser charge that dropped the mandatory minimum from 15 years to three.

On Tuesday in First District Court, Johnson was ordered to serve three years to life in the prison.
