NEW YORK CITY, June 25, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Once a year, top high school theater students selected from around the country gather in New York City as part of the Jimmy Awards.
This year, Logan’s own Ethan Kelso was a winner. On Monday night, he learned he won Best Performance by an Actor, and honor that also earned him $25,000 to continue his education.
The awards, now in their 11th year, are supported by the Broadway League Foundation and held at Broadway’s Minskoff Theatre.
Kelso is a student at the Salt Lake School for the Performing arts. He earned his chance to complete at The Jimmys when he won Best Actor at the 2019 Utah High School Musical Theatre Awards.
The honor that sent Kelso to New York also earned him a week of coaching and rehearsals with Broadway professionals before his Monday performance.
Kelso performed “Wondering” from “The Bridges of Madison County,” and also performed on several ensemble pieces that were part of the ceremony showcase.

Ukebu and Kelso will be invited to perform next year at BroadwayCon, a gig that often ends to being cast in a Broadway, West End or touring production next year, and, if past Jimmy Award winners are an indication, can expect to be cast in Broadway, West End or touring productions.
