MAGNA, Utah, Oct. 20, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — The Unified Fire Authority is investigating after a “suspicious” fire that started in Magna early Thursday morning re-ignited an hour after it was put out.

UFA spokesman Eric Holmes said officials responded at about 2:30 a.m. to a call about a fire at 9200 W. 3346 South, which is on the edge of Magna.

Holmes said the fire began at the foundation of an old home which is no longer standing, but he said there is a “ton of stuff, including firewood and debris” there. He said the area may be frequented by transients.

Firefighters arrived at the scene and it took approximately three hours to put out the flames, which were between 30 and 40 feet high.

An hour later, UFA received a call that the fire had re-ignited.

Holmes said that although the first fire is believed to be “suspicious,” the second fire may have been caused by hot spots at the scene. He said that the fire department has no information, leads or evidence about the first fire.

At 8 a.m., heavy equipment was ordered to dismantle the pile of wood and debris, he said.
