HILDALE, Utah, Nov. 6, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — A small earthquake shook the ground near Hildale at 8:38 a.m. Tuesday.
The location was a little more than half a mile west-northwest of Hildale. It was also deeper than the average earthquake, which is about 8.2 miles, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. This quake was at 16.2 miles below the surface.
According to the EarthScope Consortium, the earth’s surface tends to shake less when the quakes originate from a deeper point. So a deeper earthquake may be felt by fewer residents, and may cause less structural damage, if any.
