CACHE COUNTY, Utah, Nov. 23 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — A magnitude 2.9 earthquake hit less than two miles from Avon, in Cache County, on Saturday.
The quake hit at about 9:13 a.m., originating at a depth of 1.5 miles, according to data shared by the University of Utah Seismic Stations.
Avon has a population of 539 at the time of the last census. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, only one person reported feeling the quake.
Earthquakes of that magnitude do not typically cause damage, the USGS website says.
“Damage does not usually occur until the earthquake magnitude reaches somewhere above 4 or 5.”
