10-Year-Old Killed, 7 Family Members Injured In Box Elder County Van Rollover

BOX ELDER COUNTY, Utah, June 19, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A 10-year-old boy was killed, and seven of his family members injured in a rollover crash Saturday night in Box Elder County.

Utah Highway Patrol trooper Jared Cornia told Gephardt Daily the accident happened about 9:23 p.m. when a 2014 Toyota Sienna carrying a family of eight overturned on I-84 several miles east of Snowville.

Witnesses told the UHP the driver appeared to be momentarily distracted as the van veered left into the median and then rolled to the right when the driver overcorrected.

Tony N. Orlov, 10, was thrown from the van and died at the scene.

A 9-year-old brother, whose name was not released, was partially ejected and flown to Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City in serious condition.

The parents, along with their four other children, were all properly restrained and suffered only minor injuries. They were taken by ambulance to Bear River Valley Hospital where they were treated and released.

The UHP says the family lives in Lake Stevens, Washington.
