Man allegedly punches SLC hotel employee after stealing items from gift shop

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Jan. 2, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A suspect allegedly punched a Salt Lake City hotel employee twice in the face after attempting to steal items from the gift shop Sunday afternoon.

The suspect, Coleman Kirk Hofeling, 35, was booked in to jail for second-degree felony robbery, the Salt Lake City Police Department said in a news release.

A probable cause statement from the 3rd District Court in Salt Lake City said the incident occurred at the AC Hotel at 225 W. 200 South just after 2:30 p.m.

Officers responded to the hotel on a report of a robbery in progress and upon arrival officers found the suspect had entered the hotel and attempted to take items from the gift shop.

“The A/P (accused person) was confronted by employees inside of the business,” the probable cause statement said. “Once confronted the A/P punched the employee in the left eye twice causing injury. Another employee followed the A/P and held him down outside of the business until police arrived.”

The suspect was taken into custody and transported to Salt Lake County Jail without incident. His bail has been set at $10,000.
