Man arrested after 114 pounds of marijuana allegedly found in vehicle in Summit County

SUMMIT COUNTY, Utah, Feb. 5, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A man was arrested in Summit County after officials say they found 114 pounds of marijuana in his vehicle Wednesday.

A probable cause statement from the 3rd District Court in Summit County said Kham Mee Lee, 35, of Wisconsin, was charged Monday with felony marijuana possession 100 pounds or greater, a second-degree; driving on a suspended or revoked license, a class C misdemeanor; and failure to signal for two seconds, an infraction.

The arresting officer wrote in the probable cause statement that he saw a red Dodge Ram traveling on Interstate 80 eastbound in lane two at approximately 9:15 a.m. He saw the vehicle change lanes without first signaling for two seconds, the statement said. HeĀ  conducted a traffic stop, based on this offense, near milepost 170 on I-80 eastbound.

“I made a passenger-side approach on the vehicle where I observed multiple large plastic bags in the bed of the truck,” the statement said. “The bags appeared to be filled with
many smaller items, possibly packages. I have observed bulk marijuana transported like this before.”

The driver, the only person in the vehicle, was identified as Lee using a voided Wisconsin driver license. Lee said he did not have a current license, or vehicle registration, or proof of insurance.

“I observed multiple other indicators of criminal activity consistent with narcotics trafficking while in contact with Lee,” the statement said. “I asked Lee if he had any marijuana, Lee said ‘Yes.’ I asked Lee how much marijuana he had, Lee informed me that he had approximately had 100 pounds, and said he had no reason to lie.”

Lee was then taken into custody.

A subsequent search of the vehicle resulted in 114 approximately one pound packages of suspected raw marijuana, one vacuum sealed package of suspected marijuana wax, and more than $9,000 in cash. Subsequent testing confirmed the substance was marijuana, the statement said.

It was then found that Lee’s driver license status was suspended.

The suspect was booked into Summit County Jail with his bail set at $10,460.
