SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Oct. 6, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A man was arrested Saturday for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman at a Salt Lake City nightclub in April.

A probable cause statement from the 3rd District Court of Salt Lake County said Raul Ireneo Hernandez, 39, is facing a charge of object rape, a first-degree felony.

The statement said police interviewed a woman who told them she was in the women’s restroom at Area 51 at 451 S. 400 West on the night of April 28, when a man, subsequently identified as Hernandez, came out of one of the stalls in the restroom and “took her by surprise.” The woman said he then grabbed her arm, pulled her into a stall and sexually assaulted her, the statement said.

The woman told police she was able to escape and run from the restroom.

Officials located Hernandez Saturday. He told officials that he was alone in the restroom with the victim but he denied any wrongdoing.

Detectives do not believe Hernandez and the victim knew each other.
