SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, April 12, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A man who is accused of stealing some food from a discount store will likely be charged with aggravated robbery because he allegedly threatened the clerk with a knife.

Salt Lake City Police Lt. Scott Smalley said the call came in shortly after 9 p.m., reporting a robbery with a knife at the Family Dollar store at 50 N. 900 West.

Smalley said a description of the suspect went out over the police scanner, and responding officers located the man in a parking lot across the street from the store.

In the police report of the incident, it was stated that the suspect, identified as Damani Robinson, 46, stole food from the coolers in the store and then threatened the clerk with a knife as he left without paying, Smalley said.

Asked what charges Robinson will be facing, Smalley told Gephardt Daily, “probably aggravated robbery, because he used a knife.”

The lieutenant added, “It was a bad decision. If he wanted food, he could have just gone to the shelter.”
